George Watsons College, EdinburghEstablishment of MEDS as an engineering design consultancy in 1979. Responsible for all professional, technical and commercial matters relating to the operation of MEDS as a private professional consulting engineering practice. MEDS has been developed in to a full professional practice providing clients with a range of services in engineering design & development, building services and Expert witness work.
In carrying out projects for clients, a detailed working knowledge of various BS, DnV, API, ASME and IMO standards, IEE Wiring and Building Standards Regulations has been developed. He is responsible for the development of computer applications for:
and carries out programming in Visual Basic, Java and Clipper database systems.
He has also developed the firms management systems for CAD, drawing office and design management systems to meet the general needs of the firm and those of specific clients.
He lectured part-time at the University of Edinburgh to undergraduate and post-graduate architectural students on Building Services engineering for ten years and has acted as an expert witness on technical matters in cases of legal dispute. He is also an accredited mediator and a Director and Commissioner of the Scottish Council for International Arbitration.
He has been engaged and worked on projects in USA, South America, Germany, North Africa, Middle East, Holland, Sweden and Denmark.
During his career some 22 patents and registered designs have been filed where he is noted as the inventor.
Prior to establishing MEDS, Gordon was the Design and Production Manager of a semi-trailer manufacturing company. He was responsible for the design and production of custom built semi-trailers for the UK, European and Middle East markets. Trailer designs included low loaders up to 120 tonne capacity, TIR platforms, Refrigerated Box Vans, Curtain Sided platforms, petroleum spirit and chemical tankers. A full range of axles and suspension systems up to 75 tonne capacity were developed to allow the company to meet extreme operating conditions in the Middle East. Responsible for technical and commercial matters relating to customer liaison, a design team of 4 engineers and a workshop of 80. The company received the Queen's Award for Export.

Prior to taking her degree, Lorisa trained as a book-keeper and clerical administrator. She has extensive experience of organising information libraries, desk top publishing and applications software. Responsible for the day to day administration and book-keeping functions, she also maintains the extensive Standards and technical literature library systems of the firm.
